The S-shape seen in the middle is the well known Snake Nebula (Barnard 72, B72), a concentration of dust and dark matter that obscurs the stars behind it. To the right of the Snake is an extremely dense dark nebula B68, and below are B69, B70 and B74 (in the lower right corner). |
