NGC 2359 (Thor's Helmet)
NGC 2359 (also catalogued as Sh2-298 and called Thor's Helmet) is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. It is approximately 15,000 light-years away from Earth and its size is approximately 30 light years. The central star is an extremely hot Wolf-Rayet star, a giant thought to be in a pre-supernova stage of its evolution. The Thor's Helmet is similar in nature to the Bubble Nebula, but interactions with a nearby large molecular cloud probably have contributed to its more complex shape and structure.
