Simeis 147 (Spaghetti Nebula) and Sh2-242

Simeis 147 (Spaghetti Nebula, or Sharpless 2-240) is a large supernova remnant in the constellations of Taurus and Auriga. It's a result of supernova explosion about 40 000 years ago. This nebula covers about 3° and is approximately 3000 light years away which means that the real size is about 140 light years. To get an idea of the nebula's apparent size, please hover the mouse over the image. This will show an overimposed Moon image for comparison. You can see also all my images of Simeis 147.
